Golden Hour Senior Session at the Arboretum

This senior session at the Arboretum was one of those evenings that came together so beautifully. It was the end of August, the gardens were still full of color, and the golden-hour light was absolutely perfect.

She brought two outfits for her session, and both fit the setting so well. Her first look was a light blue floral short dress that felt fresh, fun, and perfect for the last bit of summer. For her second outfit, she changed into a long pink floral dress that added a softer, more dressed-up feel to the photos.

The combination gave us so much variety throughout the session without needing to change locations. The blue dress looked beautiful among the greenery and summer flowers, while the long pink dress stood out in the warm evening light.

A beautiful setting for senior photos

The Arboretum is such a great location for senior sessions because there is so much variety in one place. Between the flowers, garden paths, tall grasses, trees, and open areas, every part of the session can feel a little different.

We walked through a few areas of the gardens, stopping whenever the light or flowers caught our attention. There were so many pretty spots to work with, but what made the photos stand out most was how comfortable and confident she was in front of the camera.

Senior sessions do not need to feel overly posed or serious. I give enough direction so you know what to do with your hands, where to look, and how to stand, but I also want your personality to come through. A little movement, genuine smiles, and taking a moment to relax between photos can make all the difference.

Two outfits, two different looks

I always encourage seniors to bring more than one outfit if they can. It is an easy way to add variety to your gallery and show different sides of your personality.

Her light blue floral dress gave us a shorter, more casual look that felt youthful and effortless. The pink floral maxi dress was a little more elegant and romantic, especially once the sun started getting lower. Both outfits photographed beautifully against the flowers and greenery at the Arboretum.

When choosing outfits for senior photos, I recommend picking pieces that make you feel confident first. From there, think about variety. You might choose one outfit that feels casual and fun, then another that is a little more dressed up. Dresses, skirts, jeans, layers, and accessories can all help create different looks without making your session feel complicated.

Golden hour at the end of summer

Late August is such a beautiful time for senior photos in Minnesota. The evenings are still warm, the flowers are full, and golden hour has that soft glow that makes everything look extra special.

As the sun began to set, the light became warmer and softer around the gardens. It was the perfect ending to a session full of color, confidence, and beautiful summer flowers.

I had so much fun photographing this sweet senior and helping her celebrate such an exciting season of life. Senior year goes by quickly, and these photos are a chance to pause and remember who you are during this big milestone.
